The staff members at Northeast Technology Center’s Afton Campus are busily preparing to host a community event in mid-October. Known as “TechKnow,” this on-campus event is intended to help patrons get to know their local tech center.
“The event is designed to give the community a better understanding of the many programs available at NTC,” said Campus Director Paul Hocutt. “If you’ve ever wondered what our students learn while attending class at NTC Afton, now is your chance to go behind-the-scenes and find out.”
NTC serves a wide audience, and patrons of all ages are welcome to attend TechKnow. The event targets current NTC students and their families, as well as those who are potential future students.
“As a dad, I can tell you it’s never too early to start planning for your child’s future,” Hocutt said. “Do you have a third grader who wants to be a veterinarian? Let them tour our Health Careers Program and get a start on that career path before they finish high school. Do you have a middle schooler who likes gaming? Our Animation and Digital Technology Program may be a good fit for them.”
But teenagers aren’t the only ones who should be thinking about their future.
“The adults who attend may be surprised to learn we have programs for them too,” said Hocutt. “Our staff members will be available throughout the evening to answer questions about credits and schedules, as well as offer financial aid guidance.
Guests will enjoy refreshments, meet instructors and tour the facilities, including the three program areas which have been recently remodeled: cosmetology, culinary arts and diesel. Door prizes will also be part of the evening’s activities. The event is free, and no RSVP is necessary.
“When you arrive, simply check-in at the main office to receive your gift, refreshments and a campus map,” Hocutt said. “This is your chance to venture behind the scenes and learn more about the training opportunities available right here, in your own backyard.”
TechKnow will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. NTC Afton is located at 19901 S. Highway 69 just west of the turnpike.
